Gabrielle Washington of the Sacred Heart women's basketball team accomplished something that no Pioneer has done in nearly 24 years to become this week's Sacred Heart Student-Athlete of the Week. During Saturday's Northeast Conference opener the junior guard lit up the scoreboard with a career-high 35 points becoming the first women's hoops player to score more than 34 points since 1990.
Now the team's leading rebounder, Washington also pulled down 10 boards in the win over the Red Flash for her second double-double of the season.
The Mesa, Ariz. native followed that with yet another 30+ point performance Monday night against Robert Morris, who was picked to finish first in the preseason poll. As the Pioneers took their second NEC win 71-57 over the Colonials, Washington recorded her second consecutive double-dobule tallying 32 points and a career-high 15 rebounds.
