Fairfield, CT (September 16, 2013) – Junior forward Kristin Verrette (Saugus, MA) of the women’s soccer team has been named Sacred Heart Student Athlete of the Week for the week of September 9th through September 15th.
Verrette scored two goals within one minute and fifty eight seconds of each other in the second half of a 5-1 victory over the UMass Lowell River Hawks on Sunday afternoon. On her first goal, the junior captain was able to win a 50/50 ball at the top of the UMass box and fire one past the River Hawk goalkeeper to give SHU a 2-0 lead. One minute and fifty eight seconds later, Verrette struck again, this time depositing a beautifully touched Alexis Parlato through ball into the back of the net for her second goal of the game and third of the season.
Verrette and the SHU women’s soccer team is back in action this coming Friday when they travel to New Haven to take on the Yale Bulldogs.
