FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Ajah Hawley- Alexander, who most recently served as Sports Information Assistant at Hartwick College, has joined Sacred Heart University as Assistant Director of Athletic Communications. The Queens, NY native will serve as the primary media contact for the Pioneers’ women’s volleyball, women’s basketball, wrestling, rugby, rowing and softball programs.
“I would like to welcome Ajah to the Pioneer family,” said Senior Associate Director of Athletics Chris O’Connor. “She had demonstrated a passion for working in collegiate athletics and I am looking forward to the contributions she will make at SHU."
At Hartwick, Hawley- Alexander was primarily responsible for the communications efforts for eight of the Hawks’ varsity sports while spearheading ’Wick’s social media content. She handled much of Hartwick’s media outreach, website management, game day press administration and NCAA statistics. While creating and implementing HC’s digital media and marketing initiatives for campus, local communities, media and fan engagement, she launched the department’s Instagram account, @HartwickHawks, which ranked top 20 amongst Division III New York State Schools according to d3socialmedia.com.
Hawley- Alexander received both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from fellow Northeast Conference member Fairleigh Dickinson University while serving as Athletic Communications Assistant as an undergraduate student and Athletic Communications Graduate Assistant in her final year with the Knights.
Her collegiate landscape also includes stints with the Ivy League, St. John’s University, The BIG EAST Conference, LIU Brooklyn and St. Francis Brooklyn. Hawley- Alexander has experience at the professional level having worked with the New York Knicks, New York Liberty, Westchester Knicks and the NBA.
