Randy Brochu begins his first season as Student-Athlete Support Services Coordinator and third season as the full-time employee of the Sacred Heart Athletic Department. He spent his first two years as Assistant Director of Athletic Communications after two seasons as a radio play-by-play broadcaster for Pioneer athletics. He will continue to serve as lead play-by-play broadcaster for Sacred Heart hockey and baseball, fill in as basketball and football play-by-play, and serve as public address announcer for numerous SHU athletic home contests.
Brochu works with all student athletes, but particularly with freshmen, sophomores, and transfers, in assisting them in making the best possible choices in academics, athletics, personnel and career development, and community service. He serves as a liason to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, the Counseling Center for student-athlete support, and assists the Director of Student-Athlete Support Services in numerous projects and initiatives to enhance the quality of the university experience.
Prior to his time at Sacred Heart, Brochu worked for two seasons as the play-by-play voice and Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations for the Yakima Bears, a minor-league affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Locally, he also has called Quinnipiac University hockey and basketball from 2004-2007 and Norwich Navigators baseball in 2004. He also worked as a reporter for the New Britain Rock Cats Pre-Game Show in 2006 and as a sports producer for WVIT-30 in Hartford.
Brochu also worked for six years in the New Britain Public Schools as a Dean of Students, Behavioral Support Specialist, TV Production teacher, and a paraprofessional in the athletic department. He has coached JC Courant Baseball and Fall Junior Legion Baseball for nine years in New Britain, where he was born and currently still resides.
Brochu is a 2003 graduate of Boston University, where he earned a Bachelors in Journalism.
