The Sacred Heart University Cheerleading team is pleased to announce the 2011 Pioneers College Prep Clinic, to be held in the William H. Pitt Center on Saturday, March 19, 2011. The clinic will run from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm.
The focus of the clinic will be on familiarizing participants with they can expect when they try out for a college cheerleading team in the future. The registration fee is only $30 and includes the introduction to and instruction / evaluation in the following programmatic areas listed below.
The clinic is open to participants in the 9th grade and above, as well as current Sacred Heart students and potential transfer students. The skills learned in the clinic will be very beneficial to anyone who wants to try out for Sacred Heart Cheerleading or another university this year or in upcoming years. The clinic is open to individuals, teams and stunt groups!
Planned Schedule for the Day:
Registration / Check-In
9:30 am – 10:00 am
Warm-up / Stretch & Jump Instruction
10:00 am – 10:15 am
Participants will take part in a group stretch and receive proper jump technique instruction. Current Sacred Heart University cheerleaders will demo the triple jump sequence for used for the 2011-2012 Spirit squad tryouts.
10:15 am – 10:40 am
Participants will learn a fun and challenging dance. Learning this dance will be especially beneficial for those participants trying out for the 2011-2012 Cheerleading Team as it will be the official dance scored at tryouts.
Fight Song & Cheer
10:40 am – 11:00 am
Participants will learn the Sacred Heart University fight song motions/routine and a crowd leading cheer. Learning this routine and cheer will be especially beneficial for those participants trying out for the 2011-2012 Cheerleading Team as it will be scored at tryouts.
11:00 am – 12:00 pm
Participants will be paired up in stunt groups and learn proper technique for stunt loads, body positions, dismounts and transitions. Stunt difficulty will be adjusted according to the ability level of participants. Stunting instruction will be all-girl (group stunting). Please note: Participants are only guaranteed to perform in their desired stunt position and stunt difficulty level if they come with their own stunt group or co-ed partner. For example, for the safety of the participants, flyers will be assigned to a group based on the size and skill level of the participants available. If bases of adequate size are not available, the participant is not guaranteed to fly during the clinic; they may be taught to base. Participants are encouraged to register with a stunt group or partner for optimal safety and success.
12:00 pm – 12:20 pm
Continued Stunt Instruction / Optional Gymnastics Evaluation
12:20 pm – 12:45 pm
For those participants that are trying out in the spring, the Sacred Heart University coaching staff will watch and evaluate standing and running tumbling with respect to tryout expectations. This section is completely optional.
12:45 pm – 1:15 pm
Current Sacred Heart University Cheerleaders will demonstrate a sample tryout group and will demo each element (jump, tumbling, dance, fight song, cheer gymnastics and stunt).
1: 15 pm – 1: 45 pm
Participants can take part in a mock tryout. Coaching staff and current Sacred Heart cheerleaders will provide feedback on your tryout, including tips and skills to work on before their actual school tryout takes place.
Question and Answer Session
1: 45 pm – 2: 00 pm
The coaching staff and current cheerleaders will then answer any questions about college cheerleading that participants may have.
