On January 28, 2012 the Sacred Heart University Equestrian Team travelled to Delaware State University in Dover DE to compete in NCAA competition. Sacred Heart started off the day strong with Senior Abbie Britton and Freshman Cortney Sevigny both winning their points in Equitation Over Fences. Sevigny went on to win MVP over fences, awarded by judge Susan Sisco. Going into the second event of the day, Equitation Flat, the meet was tied 2 to 2. The Pioneers put up a strong fight in Equitation Flat and were only slightly edged out by the Hornets, with a final raw Hunt Seat score of 508 to 505. Also competing on Sacred Heart University's Hunt Seat Team were Junior Devan Beaulieu, Freshmen Taylor DiBella and Alison Brosky and making her NCAA debut, Sophomore Allie Buccos.
After the Hunt Seat Team finished competing, it was the Western Team's turn to ride, beginning with the Horsemanship event. Senior Adrianna Dattoli and Sophomore Danielle Belson, making her NCAA debut, rode in the first section. Both athletes put in very good rides. Competing in the second section for Sacred Heart University were athletes Margaret Vogel and Molly-Kate Carven. Vogel earned her point, edging out her opponent McKenzie Trueba by 1 1/2 points. In the final event of the day, Reining, the home field proved to be an advantage with Dattoli and Belson being slightly edged out by the Delaware riders. Carven earned a point for the western team, besting her opponent's score by .5 point, with an impressive final score of 71. Although the Hornets won the meet with a final score of 6-2, Coach Hajdasz commended the athletes for riding exceptionally well and felt the athletes had many personal victories.
