The Sacred Heart University equestrian western team was in action on Saturday February 11th, competing in two competitions at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, MA. Junior Emma Joseph started the competition for the Pioneers earning 2nd place in the walk-jog class. Sophomore Danielle Belson and freshman Taylor Robbins were next to compete in the Intermediate class. Belson earned another second place ribbon for SHU. Sophomore Margaret Vogel and junior Molly-Kate Carven, competed next in the Novice class with Vogel placing first and Carven taking home second. Seniors Adrianna Dattoli and Brian Buchanan finished up the first show of the day for the Pioneers with great rides in the Advanced, Open Horsemanship, and Reining classes. Sacred Heart finished the first show receiving the Reserve Champion High Point Team award.
The second show got underway a little after noon and began with two solid rides in Open Horsemanship and Reining from Buchanan. Dattoli also had a second strong ride aboard Swiss Miss in Advanced Horsemanship. Carven placed first in Novice and Joseph received her second, second place ribbon of the day.
Up next for the western team is the final home competition of the season next Sunday, February 19th, at Rivers Edge Farm in Bethany where the Pioneers will take on the South Dakota State Jackrabbits.
