Equestrain Opens Season at IHSA Show at Connecticut College
FAIRFIELD, CT (October 2, 2012) - The Sacred Heart University Equestrian Team competed in the first IHSA horse show of the season on Sunday hosted by Connecticut College. The team traveled to Mystic Valley Hunt Club in Gales Ferry, Connecticut and the competition was judged by Lilli Bieler of Waterbury Center Vermont.
The Pioneers were well prepared for the competition and continued to feed off the energy of last season's IHSA Regional Championship. Senior Devan Beaulieu finished third in Open Flat and sixth in Open Fences. Senior Amelia Skerys: was second in the Walk/Trot while Junior Maggie Vogel took home the top prize in the Walk/Trot/Canter. Freshman Samantha Genise also earned a first place finish, taking the top prize in the Intermediate Flat.
Junior Jocelyn Alfieri turned in a solid day with a second place finish in the Open Flat and a fifth place finish in the Open Fences. Sophomore Ashley Alaimo was fourth Novice Flat with classmate Taylor DiBella finishing second in the Novice Flat and fourth in the Intermediate Fences. Freshman Drew Sangster took sixth in the Novice Flat in her first collegiate event.
The Pioneers finished the competition as Reserve Hi-Point Team behind UCONN.
