Pioneers Baseball Players Take Part in Read Aloud at Black Rock School

(Bridgeport, CT) -The Sacred Heart baseball recently team took time out from their off-season program to participate in the Read Aloud program at Black Rock School in Bridgeport.

"This is a great opportunity for our players to get out in the community and interact with some of the local elementary school kids," said head coach Nick Giaquinto.

"Walking in I think we were more nervous then when we play in our games, but it turned out to be a great experience," said Sacred Heart player Rob Griffith.  "It seemed like the kids were more interested in talking to us about baseball and college than anything else."
Twenty-three SHU baseball players participated, reading with students from kindergarten through sixth grade.  The books were all sports themed, with life messages specifically picked to inspire the students to read more and do well in the classroom.
"It's a fun experience for me since I get see my SHU boys interact with my own boys, as I have a 1st and 3rd grader at Black Rock School," added Coach Wayne Mazzoni.
