(Port Charlotte, FL) - The Sacred Heart Baseball team is set to begin a week-long Florida trip through Port Charlotte and Tampa. The Pioneers will play every day except for Friday, taking on Xavier, Pittsburgh, and Miami (Ohio) at the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte before heading to Tampa for three games against Army Saturday and Sunday.
Sacred Heart is in search of its first win of the season after beign swept in four games last weekend against New Mexico State. Matt Charmello (6-12, 3 RBI) and Dave Boisture (6-14, 2 runs, 2 RBI) are off to solid starts at the plate. Troy Scribner will take the hill against Xavier Monday at 11:30 am. The Muskateers, out of the Atlantic-10, go into Monday's game winners of two straight over Michigan with an overall record of 3-7. They are led at the plate by Daniel Rod (.390, 16-41, 3 runs, 4 RBI) and Patrick Paligraf (.351, 13-37, 6 runs, 4 RBI).
Nick Leiningen and Kody Kerski get the starts against the Panthers of the Big East, with those games beginning at 1:00 pm on Tuesday and Wednesday. Pittsburgh comes in 4-4, with a win against Coastal Carolina its last time out. Their games against Illinois and and St. John's in the Coastal Carolina Invitational were canceled because of bad weather. Anthony Defabio (.519, 14-27), Rick Deveraux (.432, 16-37), and Casey Roche (.414, 12-29) are all off to hot starts through eight games.
Jeff Stoddard gets the nod on Thursday at 5:30 pm against Miami (Ohio). The Redhawks went 1-2 this past weekend at Ole Miss, putting them at 4-5 to start the week. Kevin Bower leads MU with a .458 batting average and 11 RBI.
