Baseball Falls to Pitt 5-4 in Day Three of the Snowbird Baseball Classic

(Port Charlotte, FL) - Freshmen Keaton Flint (Charlton, NY) and Kenny Byrum (Ponte Verde, FL) both had three hits, but the Sacred Heart Baseball team's comeback bid fell just short 5-4 to the Pittsburgh Panthers Wenesday afternoon at North Charlotte Regional Park.

Down three with two outs in the eighth, the Pioneers cut their deficit to one on RBI doubles by Rocco Gondek (Glastonbury, CT) to right and Byrum to left.  However, SHU was unable to push across the tying run from third that inning, and Tanner Wilt locked down the game with a perfect ninth for Pitt.

Trailing 5-0 in the seventh, SHU scored its first two runs on an RBI groundout by Dave Boisture (Highland Mills, NY) and an RBI infield hit by John Murphy (Seymour, CT).

Pitt scored the game's first run in the third on an RBI single to center by Rick Deverreaux.   The Panthers added another run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Derick Wilson in the fourth, two more in the fifth on an RBI double to left by Casey Roche and an RBI single Nick Vasqez, and one more in the sixth when Vasquez reached with the bases loaded on an error.

Nick Morrisey (Howell, NJ) pitched two scoreless innings of relief in his collegiate debut, striking out three without allowing a hit.

Sacred Heart takes on Miami (Ohio) in the fourth day of the Snowbird Baseball Classic Thursday evening at 5:30 pm.
