(Port Charlotte, FL) - Robbie Maguire (Brooklyn, NY) pitched five outstanding innings of relief out of the bullpen, but the Sacred Heart Baseball team lost 8-2 to the Miami (OH) Redhawks Thursday evening at North Charlotte Regional Park in the final day for the Pioneers at the Snowbird Baseball Classic.
Derick Horn (Valatie, NY) gave SHU an early 1-0 lead with a two-out RBI double to deep left-centerfield in the second. However, John Crummy gave the Redhawks a 2-1 lead with a two-run single to centerfield in the third. SHU tied it again in the third on an RBI single to right by Hunter Phillips (Monroe, CT).
Miami then took the lead for good with a four-run third on a two-run double by Jacob Wolf, and RBI groundout by Matt Honchel, and a sacrifice fly by Scott Slappey. Crummey and John Brennre added RBI singles in the eighth.
Maguire allowed just two runs on five innings out of the bullpen, cruising through his first four innings of relief in allowing just an infield single until the eighth. He struck out six batters.
The Pioneers play Army in two nine-inning games Saturday afternoon in Tampa, FL, beginning at 12:00 pm.
