(Fairfield, CT) – John Murphy (Seymour, CT) and Dan Perez (Seymour, CT) both earned All-Northeast Conference Baseball honors, announced by the Northeast Conference on the eve of the NEC Baseball Tournament at the annual conference awards banquet Wednesday night at Dodd Stadium.
Perez was named First Team All-NEC at designated hitter, finishing the regular season with a .311 batting average and team-best 34 RBI. The sophomore saw his average climb 32 points from last season, settling into the clean-up spot. He also leads the team with 12 doubles, 30 walks, and .441 on-base percentage, and is second in the NEC in walks and OBP.
Murphy was named Second Team-All-NEC at shortstop after leading the Pioneers with a .338 batting average, good for fourth in the NEC. He earned All-NEC honors for the second consecutive year, leading the Pioneers in six offensive categories in which he also ranks in the top ten in the NEC. The junior captain is currently tied for second with 22 steals and four triples, third with a .437 OBP, eighth in walks with 24, and 10th in slugging percentage at .469.
The duo won a NEC Championship together last season, as well as a Class LL Connecticut State Baseball Championship in 2007 at Seymour High School.
Sacred Heart is looking for a second straight NEC title this weekend at Dodd Stadium, beginning the double-elimination tournament as the #2 seed against the #3 CCSU Blue Devils Thursday afternoon at 3:30 pm.
