Servilla Joins Murphy and Scribner as Captain of Sacred Heart Baseball
(Fairfield, CT) – Sacred Heart University Baseball Head Coach Nick Giaquinto recently announced that senior outfielder Jonathan Servilla (Fairfield, CT) has been named a captain for the 2013 season. Servilla will serve as a tri-captain with John Murphy (Seymour, CT) and Troy Scribner (Washington Depot, CT), who once again will captain the Pioneer Baseball team as seniors after helping lead SHU to its second straight Northeast Conference Baseball championship in 2012.
"Johnny Wheels", as Servilla is known on the team for his base stealing prowess and overall speed, has been Giaquinto's go-to pinch runner for three years, but could compete for a starting spot in the outfield this year. In three seasons, he is 15-19 in stolen base attempts, including a nearly perfect 7-8 last year. He is a .222 hitter over 58 career games.
Johnny Wheels has the respect of everyone involved with the Pioneer Baseball program and will have a tremendously positive influence on the entire program," said Giaquinto. "I am looking forward to collaborating with Jon, Troy, and Murph to create a strong and consistent leadership team."
Murphy enjoyed and outstanding junior season in the Pioneers' run to another NEC title. He was named All-NEC Second Team at shortstop, leading the Pioneers in six offensive categories in which he also ranks in the top ten in the NEC. He hit .343 with 61 hits, 38 runs, 36 RBI, and 25 stolen bases in 51 games.
Scribner once again helped lead the Pioneer pitching staff, going 7-6 with 4.62 ERA in 14 starts, hurling six complete games. He made the All-NEC Tournament Team for the second straight year, setting the tone for the SHU's three-game tournament sweep with a complete game win over CCSU.
