Pioneers Set for Frisch Invitational at Fordham University

Fairfield, CT – The Sacred Heart Baseball team returns to the east coast to participate in the Frankie Frisch Invitational at Houlihan Field, on the campus of Fordham University. The Pioneers are coming off an eight game stretch in Louisiana over spring break. Sacred Heart is looking to bounce back from a 1-7 start, including a loss at # 3 ranked LSU.  As part of the Frisch Invite, the Pioneers will take on St. Peter's on Friday, Fordham on Saturday, and wrap up the weekend against NJIT on Sunday.  

Sacred Heart was victorious in their last time out, defeating the Nicholls State Colonels, 7-4, on Sunday, March 10th. Senior shortstop John Murphy (Seymour, CT) notched his 200th career hit in the win over the Colonels. Murphy was 4-5 in that game with four runs batted in. Murphy was extremely impressive on the Pioneers' trip to Louisiana, posting a team high .441 average with 7 RBI's. He now ranks fifth all-time in the Sacred Heart record books with 203 career hits. Junior pitcher Nick Leiningen (Millwood, NY) registered the win against Nicholls State, giving up just two runs on four hits in 7.1 innings of work.
 

Sacred Heart kicks off the weekend Friday against St. Peter's. First pitch set for 3:30.
