Fairfield, CT – The Sacred Heart Baseball team will be traveling just down the parkway to take on in-state conference rival Quinnipiac in a four game series starting Friday afternoon at 3:00 pm. SHU enters the weekend tied for second place in the Northeast Conference with a record of 5-3, while QU sits tied in third with a 4-4 conference record.
Senior shortstop John Murphy (Seymour, CT) leads the Pioneers in almost every offensive category, including a .387 batting average and a .707 slugging percentage which is also tops in the Northeast Conference. Murphy already has 7 doubles, 4 triples and 3 homeruns this season.
Freshman Brian Lamboy (Manalapan, NJ) was named NEC Rookie of the Week for his efforts in the Pioneers' series win over LIU Brooklyn last weekend. On Saturday, Lamboy went 3-for-4 with a double, two steals and four runs in Sacred Heart's 9-7 series clinching win over the Blackbirds.
Senior Troy Scribner (Washington Depot, CT) gets the ball in game one on Friday, coming off an impressive 14 strikeout, complete game performance last weekend against LIU Brooklyn. Scribner leads the NEC with 35 strikeouts this season.
Junior Nick Leiningen (Millwood, NY) and sophomore Jeff Stoddard (Branford, CT) get the starts in Saturday's doubleheader. Stoddard comes into this weekend with a stingy 1.69 ERA in 26.2 innings of work. Leiningen is 2-2 on the season and has logged the most innings (29) for Sacred Heart so far this season.
Junior Kody Kerski (Waterbury, CT) will be on the mound in the series finale on Sunday. Kerski is coming off an injury to his finger in which he missed a couple starts. Kerski had pitched well before the injury, leading the team with an exceptional 1.00 ERA in 18 innings.
