SHU Baseball Heads to CCSU for Four Game Series
Fairfield, CT – Coming off back-to-back series victories over LIU Brooklyn and Quinnipiac, the Sacred Heart Pioneers now head to New Britain for a four game series against in-state rival Central Connecticut State. Sacred Heart is currently in third place in the NEC standings with a record of 8-4. The Pioneers sit behind Bryant and Monmouth.
Last weekend the Pioneers took three out of four games at Quinnipiac to earn their second NEC series win in a row. After dropping the first game of the series, the Pioneers rolled over the Bobcats, outscoring them 33-1 in the final three games of the series. Senior Dave Boisture (Highland Mills, NY) was red hot from the plate, going 10-17 in the four games with 5 runs scored and 3 RBI. During the final three games of the series the Pioneers pitching staff had a stretch of 21 straight innings in which they did not allow a single run.
Senior shortstop John Murphy (Seymour, CT) currently ranks first in the NEC in slugging percentage (.711) and fifth in batting average (.375). Murphy also ranks first in both triples (4) and total bases (59).
This weekend the Pioneers will go with the same rotation as last weekend. Senior Troy Scribner (Washington Depot, CT) will get the start on Friday, followed by junior Nick Leiningen (Millwood, NY) and sophomore Jeff Stoddard (Branford, CT) in the double header, while junior Kody Kerski (Waterbury, CT) will hit the mound on Sunday in the series finale. Kerski and Stoddard currently rank 1-2 in the Northeast Conference in ERA. Kerski leads the way with a 0.69 earned run average in 26 innings (ranked 8th nationally), while Stoddard comes into the weekend with a 1.34 ERA in 33.2 innings.
Central Connecticut comes into this weekend having won four out of their last six games. The Blue Devils split a four game series with LIU Brooklyn last weekend. The Blue Devils are led by the trio of Dylan Delacruz, Tyler McIntyre, and J.P Sportman. McIntyre leads the team with 21 RBI and a .376 batting average. Delacruz and Sportman are not far behind McIntyre, batting .373 and .313 respectively.
