SHU Baseball Knocks Off Bryant, 4-1

Bridgeport, CT – Senior Troy Scribner (Washington Depot, CT) dominated the hottest team in college baseball Friday afternoon, striking out 11 and giving up just three hits, as Sacred Heart handed the Bryant Bulldogs their first conference loss of the season, 4-1. With the win, the Pioneers snapped Bryant's 19 game win streak and gave them their first conference loss of the season. SHU improves to 12-4 in the NEC this season.

Scribner dazzled once again for the Pioneers, striking out 11 Bulldogs, including punching out out the side in the eighth inning en route to his third win of the season. Scribner leads the Northeast Conference with 61 strikeouts on the season.

Sacred Heart hit the scoreboard first, taking the 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth. Dan Perez (Seymour, CT) led off the bottom of the fourth with a rocket up the middle to start the rally. Senior Rocco Gondek (Glastonbury, CT) followed Perez with a double to left center, giving the Pioneers men on second and third base with no one out. Freshman Brian Lamboy (Manalapan, NJ) slapped a single up the middle to score Perez and Gondek, staking the Pioneers a 2-0 lead.

Scribner would run into some trouble in the seventh allowing a lead off double to infielder John Mullen. Mullen would come around to score Bryant's only run on an errant throw by catcher Rocco Gondek as he stole third base.

Sacred Heart would add a couple insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth on a one out base hit by Perez. Jesus Medina (New York, NY) led off the inning with a base hit. Murphy would follow Medina with his third single of the afternoon, giving the Pioneers two on with no one out. Senior Dave Boisture (Highland Mills, NY) would bunt Murphy and Medina over to second and third for Perez to knock in.

SHU and Bryant continue their series tomorrow afternoon at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard. The doubleheader is slated to start at 1:00 pm.
