Bridgeport, CT – Junior Kody Kerski (Waterbury, CT) pitched his second complete game of the season, leading the Pioneers past the Bryant Bulldogs, 4-2, in the series finale on Sunday afternoon. SHU has now won three out of four games in four consecutive conference series'. Sacred Heart improves to 14-6 in the Northeast Conference this season.
The junior right-hander Kerski pitched the complete game, striking out 6 Bulldogs en route to his third win of the season. Kerski came into the afternoon leading the conference with a 1.32 ERA.
SHU scored the first runs of the game in the fourth inning. The Pioneers utilized the safety squeeze after Rocco Gondek (Glastonbury, CT) smacked a fastball down the left field line to land himself on third base. Freshman Jayson Sullivan (Charlton, NY) laid down the bunt to score Gondek and also reached himself on the bunt single. Keaton Flint (Charlton, NY) knocked in the Pioneers' second run with a base hit to right field to score freshman Jesus Medina (New York, NY). Medina reached on a hit by pitch.
An RBI groundout by catcher Jonathan Scott and an RBI single by Anderson would tie the game up at two in the top of the fifth inning.
SHU would take the lead back in the fifth inning on a Medina base hit up the middle, scoring freshman Brian Lamboy (Manalapan, NY) who led off the inning with a single to right field.
The Pioneers added to their lead in the sixth inning on a Lamboy single that scored Keaton Flint (Charlton, NY), giving SHU the 4-2 lead. The two run lead would be all Kerski would need.
SHU will be in action next when they take on cross-town rival Fairfield on Tuesday afternoon.
