Pioneers Win Back and Forth Battle with Monmouth in 12 Innings
Fairfield, CT – Senior Dave Boisture (Highland Mills, NY) hammered a two out triple down the left line to score senior John Murphy (Seymour, CT) in the 12th inning as the Sacred Heart Pioneers defeated the Monmouth Hawks, 3-2 in 12 innings at Monmouth Field on Friday night. SHU improves to 15-6 in the Northeast Conference this season. SHU and Monmouth came into the game tied for second in the Northeast Conference.
Sacred Heart ace Troy Scribner (Washington Depot, CT) earned the no decision for the Pioneers, allowing two runs in ten innings of action. Scribner was on the precipice of a complete game victory in the ninth and tenth innings but Chris Perret was the spoiler each time. First Perret hammered a solo homerun in the ninth to tie the game at one and then knocked a RBI single in the tenth to tie the game at two.
Sacred Heart could not close the deal in the ninth, allowing the Chris Perret towering homerun to right field to tie the game at one.
SHU would come right back to take the 2-1 lead in the tenth inning. Freshman Brian Lamboy (Manalapan, NJ) came up with the clutch hit in the tenth, lining a one out double to left center field to score Flint.
SHU would take the lead again in the 12th this time the clutch hit came from senior Dave Boisture (Highland Mills, NY). Boisture hammered a triple down the left field line to score John Murphy (Seymour, CT) from second base. Murphy initiated a walk with two outs to start the rally.
Sophomore Dan Wertz (Cross River, NY) took home the victory for the Pioneers; pitching two scoreless innings in the 11th and 12th to notch his second win of the season.
SHU and Monmouth are right back at it tomorrow afternoon with a doubleheader starting at 1:00 pm.
