Bridgeport, CT – Senior Troy Scribner (Washington Depot, CT) allowed just one earned run in tossing a complete game nine innings to defeat the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights, 5-2, on Friday afternoon at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard. SHU snaps a four losing streak and improves to 16-9 in the Northeast Conference.
Senior ace Troy Scribner struck out nine Knights en route to his fourth victory of the season. Scribner leads the Northeast Conference with 77 strikeouts on the season.
SHU would get on the board first in the third inning. Brian Lamboy (Manalapan, NJ) knocked in the Pioneers' first run with a bloop double down the right field line, which allowed Derick Horn (Valatie, NY) to score. Horn led off the inning with a line drive up the middle.
The Pioneers added one more in the fourth. Horn was able to draw a walk with the bases loaded to score junior Dan Perez (Seymour, CT). Perez was hit by a pitch to start the inning. FDU turned a double play with the bases loaded to escape any more trouble in the fourth.
The Pioneers stretched their lead in the sixth inning. Freshman Jayson Sullivan (Charlton, NY) and sophomore Keaton Flint (Charlton, NY) started the inning with back-to-back singles. Sullivan would come around on a passed ball and Flint would come around on a two out base hit by Dave Boisture (Highland Hills, NY).
FDU cut into Sacred Heart's lead in the seventh. Catcher John Giakis doubled to left center to drive home freshman Dylan Sprague to make it 4-1 Sacred Heart.
In the eighth inning, Sacred Heart would add one more on a Derick Horn line drive up the middle to score Flint, capping the SHU scoring at five runs.
FDU and Sacred Heart are right back at it tomorrow afternoon for a doubleheader starting at 1:00 am.
