    NORWICH, Conn – The Sacred Heart Pioneers broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the eighth on the way to a 2-0 win over Central Connecticut State Saturday afternoon to reach their sixth consecutive NEC Championship game at Dodd Stadium. Sacred Heart will play Bryant in the NEC title game, a re-match of last year’s championship game, on Saturday afternoon.

    NORWICH, Conn – Sophomore Jayson Sullivan (Charlton, NY) drilled a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning, but it was the Bryant Bulldogs who scored four runs in the 12th to win the 2014 NEC Championship Saturday afternoon at Dodd Stadium. The Pioneers finish the season with a record of 29-28, falling in the NEC Title game for the second consecutive game.

    NORWICH, Conn – Junior left-hander Jeff Stoddard (Branford, CT) pitched six strong innings and the Sacred Heart offense came alive with 18 hits on the way to a 13-8 victory over Wagner Friday afternoon to stay alive in the NEC Tournament at Dodd Stadium. The Pioneers improve to 28-27 on the season and will face the loser of Central Connecticut State and Bryant tomorrow afternoon at noon.

    NORWICH, Conn – Attempting to the tie the game with two outs in the ninth, sophomore Jesus Medina (New York, NY) was thrown out at home by CCSU first baseman Dom Severino and the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils escaped Thursday night with a 4-3 win over Sacred Heart in the NEC Tournament at Dodd Stadium. With the loss, the Pioneers enter the loser’s bracket of the Tournament and will take on Wagner tomorrow afternoon at noon.

    FAIRFIELD, Conn – Freshman Zack Short (Hurley, NY) and senior Kody Kerski (Waterbury, CT) were named to the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association’s First and Second teams Wednesday afternoon. A voting process involving the coaches of all teams in New England determines the three teams. Short was named first team shortstop, while Kerski earned second team starting pitcher honors.

    NORWICH, Conn - Five Sacred Heart baseball players earned All-Northeast Conference honors Wednesday evening as announced by the conference at the annual NEC Tournament banquet at Dodd Stadium. Junior right-hander James Cooksey (Norwalk, CT) earned first team honors, while freshman Zack Short (Hurley, NY), senior Kody Kerski (Waterbury, CT), freshman Keith Klebart (Orange, CT) and sophomore Jayson Sullivan (Charlton, NY) were all named to the second team.

    The Sacred Heart Pioneers return to Dodd Stadium looking for their third Northeast Conference Championship in four seasons. SHU comes in as the number three seed after entering the past two tournaments as the two seed. SHU won back-to-back titles in Norwich in 2011 and 2012, before falling to Bryant in last year’s championship game. Sacred Heart captured its first NEC Championship in 2006.

    FAIRFIELD, Conn – For the second time this season, sophomore Jayson Sullivan (Charlton, NY) has been named Northeast Conference Player of the Week. The weekly award for Sullivan is Sacred Heart’s ninth of the season.

    The Sacred Heart baseball team’s game at CCSU Friday afternoon has been cancelled and moved to tomorrow afternoon. Beginning at noon on Saturday, SHU and CCSU will finish game two of the series, which was suspended in the seventh inning on Thursday due to darkness, and then play the final two games of the series in a doubleheader.
  • Pioneers Defeat CCSU in 13 Innings, Clinch Berth into NEC Tournament

    NEW BRITAIN, Conn – The Sacred Heart Pioneers scored four runs in the ninth inning to tie Central Connecticut State and then walked off for an 8-7 win in 13 innings Thursday afternoon at CCSU Baseball Field. The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was suspended in the top of the seventh inning with SHU trailing the Blue Devils 4-3. With the win in game one, the Pioneers clinched a berth into their sixth consecutive NEC Tournament. SHU is now 12-9 in the NEC this season.
  • SHU Baseball Series at CCSU Shifted

    FAIRFIELD, Conn – Due to weather concerns on Friday afternoon, Sacred Heart baseball’s regularly scheduled doubleheader at Central Connecticut State has been moved to tomorrow afternoon, starting at 1 p.m. SHU and CCSU will then play a single game (seven-inning) on Friday and then wrap up the series with a nine-inning single game on Saturday.

    FAIRFIELD, Conn - On the verge of clinching a spot in their sixth straight Northeast Conference Tournament, the Sacred Heart Pioneers travel to Central Connecticut State this weekend for a four-game series beginning on Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m. Sacred Heart comes into the final weekend of the regular season third in the NEC and trailing second place CCSU by just one game.

  • Pioneers Sweep Sunday Doubleheader; Split Series with Wagner

    STATEN ISLAND, NY – After continuing and losing yesterday’s rain-shortened game 6-2, the Sacred Heart Pioneers rebounded to sweep a doubleheader from the Wagner Seahawks Sunday afternoon at Richmond County Bank Ballpark. SHU won game one 4-3 and then dropped the Seahawks 3-1 in twelve innings to finish off the sweep. With the wins, SHU splits the four-game set with Wagner and improves to 11-9 in the NEC this season and 24-24 overall.

    STATEN ISLAND, NY – Sacred Heart and Wagner were only able to get through six innings Saturday afternoon before a rigorous rain storm stopped the action and suspended game one of the Saturday doubleheader. The Pioneers and Seahawks will resume today’s game in the top of the seventh and then play a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon, beginning at noon.

SHU and CCSU both have 9-7 conference records, while Wagner currently resides in fifth place with a record of 7-9.

With the wins, Sacred Heart snaps a Bryant ten-game winning streak and improves to 9-6 in the NEC.
