FAIRFIELD, Conn.—The Sacred Heart Department of Athletics will hold a celebration for SHU Baseball Head Coach Nick Giaquinto at his final home game, Saturday, May 13, at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard.
The day will include pregame ceremonies beginning at 12:30 p.m. before the Pioneers take on Bryant University at 1 p.m.. There will also be a memorable postgame celebration for alumni, family and friends to celebrate and thank Coach Giaquinto for his 29 years of service.
Tickets for the game and postgame celebaration are $20 and include a special Coach G commeroative t-shirt and a donation to the SHU baseball program. Tickets for children ages 4-12 are $10. To register for the event, Click Here. Admission to the game is free of charge for those who do not wish to attend the postgame celebration. There is no registration at the ballpark on May 13.
Giaquinto, a Fairfield County native, is in his final campaign with the Pioneers with 620 career victories and an eighth-place finish at the 1992 Division II College World Series on his resume; one of seven NCAA Regional appearances. He has led the Pioneers to eight straight Northeast Conference baseball tournaments.
The Pioneers have won four NEC Championships, most recently in 2015 that capped a streak of seven consecutive years reaching the NEC Title Game to go along with his back-to-back ECAC Championships in 1990 and 1991. He was named the NEC Coach of the Year in 2005 and was both the Northeast Region and New England Collegiate Conference Coach of the Year in 1992. Over his tenure at SHU, Giaquinto has coached nine MLB draftees and 48 All-NEC Honorees.
The Pioneers have won four of their last five games and host Wagner in a four-game Northeast Conference series this weekend. Friday and Sunday's games will be played at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard, while Saturday's doubleheader is to be played at Southern Connecticut State.
