BROOKLYN, NY - Freshman pitcher Troy Scribner (Washington Depot, CT) threw eight strong inning to earn his first collegiate win, and senior outfielder Mike Drowne (S. Hadley, MA) had a pair of hits, including his fourth homer of the year, to lead the Sacred Heart baseball team to a 9-2 win at LIU Sunday afternoon.
The homer for Drowne was his third in three days. It was a solo shot off LIU starter Matt McCormick in the third inning that gave SHU a 2-1 lead.
Murphy drove home another run with a single in the sixth to make it 5-2. Senior Steve Tedesco (Mission Viejo, CA) helped SHU break it open with a two-run run in a four-run eighth. Drowne also drove home a run with a double in the inning.
Scribner gave up seven hits and just one earned run in eight innings of work. He struck out nine and did not walk a batter to raise his record to 1-2.
The Pioneers will host Manhattan on Tuesday at 3:30 pm at Harbor Yard.
