FAIRFIELD, CT - Freshman Troy Scribner (Washington Depot, CT) was named the Akadema NEC Pitcher of the Week today, after leading the Pioneers to a convincing 9-2 win at Long Island University on Sunday.
Scribner was in control throughout Sacred Heart's triumph. The right-hander struck out nine batters and walked none over eight innings. Notching his first collegiate victory, which earned the Pioneers a split of their four-game NEC series, Scribner scattered seven hits and allowed only one earned run. He worked around two early throwing errors by his defense in limiting LIU to one unearned run in the first inning.
Getting stronger as the game wore on, Scribner held the Blackbirds scoreless and allowed only two hits over his final 4.0 frames of work. The rookie right threw 115 pitches while lowering his season earned-run average to 3.77.
