Rob Griffith (Lake Ronkonkoma, NY) slammed homeruns in three consecutive games and totaled nine RBI en route to being named the Akadema Northeast Conference co-player of the week. Jared Balbach (Pine Bush, NY) did not allow an earned run in his complete game victory over Fairleigh Dickinson to earn co-pitcher of the week honors. The Pioneers finished the week taking three of four Northeast Conference games from the Knights.
Griffith went 9-for-16 (.563) with three homers and nine RBI in the Pioneers three win weekend over Fairleigh Dickinson. The sophomore first baseman hit a homerun in each of the final three games this weekend and crossed the plate a total of five times. Griffith had at least two hits and one RBI in every SHU contest. He started his tear with a modest 2-for-4 game on Friday with one RBI in the Pioneers 15-2 rout of FDU. Griffith exploded in game two of the series, an 11-1 SHU win, going 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and three total RBI. He extended his hot streak into game two of the Saturday double header with another 2-for-3 performance and a second two-run blast. He rounded out his weekend with a stellar Sunday matinee driving in four more runs and hitting his third homer of the series.
Balbach tossed a complete game victory without allowing an earned run Saturday afternoon against Fairleigh Dickinson. Balbach struck out seven batters through seven innings and allowed just four hits. The only run came against the SHU starter after a two out fielding error in the bottom of the fifth. Balbach polished off his sixth win of 2010 by retiring the last seven Knights in order. Balbach has now earned a complete game victory in each of his last two starts.
