SHU's Gibson and Evans Garner All-NEC Honors
FAIRFIELD, Conn. (March 1, 2011) - Sophomore Shane Gibson (Killingly, CT) and freshman Chris Evans (Stamford, CT) of the men's basketball team were named to the 2010-11 All-Northeast Conference teams announced on Tuesday. Gibson earned a spot on the All-NEC second team while Evans was named to the NEC All-Rookie team.
"I am happy to see our league coaches reward Shane and Chris for their individual accomplishments," said head coach Dave Bike. "They deserved their recognition."
Gibson finished the regular season second in the Northeast Conference in scoring averaging 17.2 points per game. He also ranks third in the league in three-pointers made (2.6/game), sixth in free throw percentage (.837) and ninth in steals (1.4 spg). He turned in 12 games this season where he scored 20 or more points and had a 34 point night in a 79-76 win at Wagner.
His 75 three's this season ranks as the fourth highest season total in the Pioneer record books. Gibson will enter his junior season with 748 career points.
Evans finished the season third on the team in scoring averaging 9.1 ppg ranked 11th in the conference in field goal shooting at 46.8 percent. Able to play at either guard or forward, Evans also averaged 3.3 rebounds per game and had 22 steals. He posted a pair of 18 points games in wins over Yale and Holy Cross.
