2011 Cacun Challenge Match-Ups Announced
FAIRFIELD, CT (May 17, 2011) – Cancun Challenge organizers announced the pairings for the upcoming Thanksgiving week tournament and the Sacred Heart Pioneers will face Rutgers, Richmond and Hampton as well as one other team at the event.
The Cancun Challenge features eight men's DI college basketball teams and includes eight games played in the United States, and eight games played at the all-inclusive Moon Palace Golf and Spa resort.
Illinois, Illinois State, Richmond and Rutgers headline the host teams' field and are joined by Hampton, Lipscomb, Sacred Heart and the University of Southern Illinois Edwardsville.
The four host teams (Illinois, Illinois State, Richmond and Rutgers) will host two games each in their home arenas in the United States, then play each other for two games at Moon Palace Resort on Nov. 22-23, 2011. The four visiting teams will travel to U.S. games then play two games at the Moon Palace Resort.
The Pioneers will travel to Rutgers on November 19th and then head to Richmond to face the Spiders on November 21st before traveling to Cancun. SHU faces Hampton in game one in Cancun on November 22nd and will face either the winner or loser of the Lipscomb and Southern Illiniois Edwardsville in game two on November 23rd.
The Cancun Challenge is owned and produced by Fort Collins, Colo.-based Triple Crown Sports, which also organizes women's college basketball tournaments in Cancun, and the Preseason and Postseason Women's NIT.
