Pioneer Men's Basketball Adds De'Aires Tate for 2012-13

Head Coach Dave Bike

FAIRFIELD, CT (May 18, 2012) - The Sacred Heart men's basketball program will welcome the third member of their recruiting class with head coach Dave Bike announcing that De'Aires Tate (Lithonia, Georgia) has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the university starting this fall.

"De'Aires is a long and very athletic player that plays much bigger than his size," commented Bike.  "He has a rebounders mentality and a very good nose for the ball.  We feel his ability to rebound, run the floor and defend will help our program immediately."

Tate is a 6'6" forward from Martin Luther King High School and Lithonia, Georgia.  He lead his team in scoring and rebounding as a junior at 14.0 ppg and 12.0 rpg, earning team MVP honors.  He was a two-year All-Region selection after leading the region in offensive rebounding the past two season while shooting over 80.0% at the free throw line.

During his senior season, he posted season-highs of 19 points and 19 rebounds in the first round of the State Tournament and had 17 points and 17 boards against Westlake.  During his junior year, he posted season highs of 34 pts 23 rebs against Luella High School.

Tate joins recently signed Cole Walton, a 6-11 center from Bellevue, Washington, and Tevin Felzon, a 6-7 forward out of Newton, Massachusetts.  "We believe we have solidified our front court for the future," stated the head coach entering his 35th season on the bench at Sacred Heart University.

"Not only are they talented players,  but also quality young men that will represent our program and university in a first class fashion.  All three incoming freshmen compliment one another very well and all three will be instrumental in the future success of our program."
