SHU's Gibson Named on CBS Sports Top-30 "Under the Radar" List
FAIRFIELD, CT (October 31, 2012) - Sacred Heart senior guard Shane Gibson (Killingly, CT) had a breakthrough season in 2011-12, finishing the year fourth in the country in scoring while earning a spot on the All-Northeast Conference. Primed for his senior season in the Red & White, Gibson was named by national writer Jeff Borzello to his Top 30 "Under the Radar" list on CBSSports.com this week.
Gibson, along with LIU Brooklyn's senior duo of Julian Boyd and Jamal Olasewere were named to this year's list. The trio were all-conference picks last season and appeared on the 2012-13 Preseason All-NEC team announced last week. Boyd is the reigning NEC Player of the Year.
The Pioneers are set to open their season next Saturday taking on Yale in the 2012 Connecticut 6 Classic with Gibson ready to pick up right where he left off last March. A pure scorer who can hit from just about anywhere on the court, Gibson finished his junior campaign averaging 22.0 points per game, the highest average in the league in seven seasons. Ranking among the league leaders in nearly every offensive category, Gibson made 51.0% of his shots last season while finishing tops in the NEC with 87 three's.
He enters his last season at SHU with 1,453 career points and can become just the fifth player in NEC history to reach the 2,000 point mark.
