Philadelphia, PA – The La Salle Explorers started off hot and never looked back, cruising to a 100-71 win over the Sacred Heart Pioneers Saturday afternoon in Philadelphia. The Pioneers have now lost six straight games and fall to 2-8 on the season.
The Explorers improved their record to 8-2 on the season behind Atlantic 10 leading scorer Ramon Galloway, who had 22 points and seven assists. Sacred Heart was paced by Shane Gibson (Killingly, VT) who led the team with 19 points. La Salle forced 22 turnovers and shot 54 percent from the field for the game.
The Explorers started off strong, grabbing a quick 8-0 before the Pioneers finally got on the board at the 16:50 mark with a nifty floater by Phil Gaetano (Wallingford, CT). Turnovers by the Pioneers and hot shooting allowed La Salle to stretch their lead to 17-4 at the 15:01 mark. The Pioneers were able to get slightly back into the game with back-to-back threes from sophomores Gaetano and Steve Glowiak (New Britain, CT) to make it 17-10, the closest it would be all game. Glowiak was 4-4 from three point land in the first half, finishing the game 5-6 for 15 points. La Salle broke it wide open from there, taking a 66-30 lead into halftime.
The Pioneers played much better in the second half, outscoring the Explorers 41-34 after the intermission. Sacred Heart forced 12 turnovers in the second half and shot 52 % from the floor.
The Pioneers close out their non-conference slate on December 30th when they travel to George Washington.
