Men's Basketball Opens Home Slate Saturday Against Brown At 2 P.M.

Setting the Scene... The Sacred Heart men's basketball team welcomes theBrown Bears to the Pitt Center for its home opener Saturday afternoon. SHU is still looking for its first win of the season, after falling in double overtime 122-118 Wednesday night to the Holy Cross Crusaders. Evan Kelley scored a career-high 32 points and Steve Glowiak added a career-high 28 in the double overtime thriller. The Pioneers lost their opening game to Fairfield 67-54 inthe Connecticut Six classic in Bridgeport. Brown comes into Saturday's gameoff a 73-69 loss to the Providence Friars on Wednesday night.

Series Notes... Saturday afternoon's game is the fifth meeting between Sacred Heart and Brown University. The series is tied at two games each with the home team winning each game. SHU has won both meeting in Fairfield, 77-64 in 2011-12 and 83-78 in the first-ever meeting in 2009-10. The Bears have won both games in Providence, including last season 69-56. Rafael Maia scored 19 points and snagged 15 rebounds in the victory.

Sacred Heart vs. the Ivy League ... Sacred Heart is 16-19 all-time against members of the Ivy League. This is the first of two meetings with the Ivy League this season. SHU will battle the Yale Bulldogs on Tuesday, November 19th. The Pioneers split with the Ivy league in 2012-13, beating Yale in the Connecticut Six classic, before falling to Brown in Providence. Sacred Heart has faced Brown (3-2), Columbia (4-4), Cornell (1-1), Harvard (3-5) and Yale (5-7). SHU has never faced Dartmouth, Penn or Princeton.

Career-High Pioneers... Guards Steve Glowiak and Evan Kelley both recorded career-highs in points Wednesday night in a 122-118 double-overtime loss at Holy Cross. Kelley scored a team-high 32, while Glowiak knocked down seven three-pointers on his way to 28 points.

Consistent Montes... Senior forward Louis Montes is the only Pioneer to score in double digits in both games so far this season. Montes opened the season with 19 against Fairfield, and followed that up with 18 at Holy Cross. Montes is the Pioneers' leading returning scorer from a year ago.

Resurgent Offense... After being held to 24.6% from the field against Fairfield, Sacred Heart shot 50% at Holy Cross on Wednesday night. The Pioneers also shot 38.5% from the three-point arc and 84.2% from the foul line, both improvements from the season opener. Sacred Heart eclipsed the century mark in points for the first time since Feb. 7, 2009 when the Pioneers beat LIU Brooklyn 101-72. Sacred Heart's 118 points Wednesday is the most for Sacred Heart in a single game in the Division I era.

Forcing Turnovers... In the first two games this season, the Pioneers haveforced an average of 21 turnovers a game. Of the 42 turnovers forced, 18 have been steals. On offense, Sacred Heart has only committed 24 turnovers in two games for a turnover margin of +9.00.
