Men's Basketball Opens Five-Game Road Trip Tuesday At Yale

Setting the Scene...  The Sacred Heart men's basketball team opens a five-game road trip Tuesday night at Yale. The Bulldogs are the Pioneers' second straight Ivy League opponent. 

Last Time Out... Louis Montes scored a season-high 24 points Saturday as the Pioneers dropped their home opener to the Brown Bears 85-73 at the Pitt Center. Montes made a career-high five threes in the loss. Chris Evans added 23 points and three steals. Brown used a 13-5 run in the second half to take a 66-55 lead with 8:23 to play. Sacred Heart shot a season-high 45.5% from the three-point arc against Brown.

Yale Series Notes...  The Bulldogs lead the all-time series with Sacred Heart 7-5. 
- Yale won the first meeting 77-64 on Nov. 29, 2001 in New Haven. 
- SHU has won four of the last five meetings between the two teams, including last season's 85-82 win in the Connecticut 6 Classic.
- The Pioneers overcame a 24-point halftime deficit to win, outscoring Yale 35-13 in the last 14:13 of game action. Shane Gibson scored 29 points, including 24 in the second half and overtime. Louis Montes had a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds. 

Montes Making Moves... Senior forward Louis Montes scored a season-high 24 points Saturday against Brown, his third-straght double-figure scoring performance to open the season. He got to his 24 points on the strength of a career-high five three-pointers. Montes is currently the second-leading scorer in the Northeast Conference, averaging 20.3 points per game while also being among the top-10 in both field goal and three-point percentage. He is now 62 points away from 1,000 for his career.


Evans Scoring In Every Way... Redshirt-Junior guard Chris Evans also set a season-high for points Saturday with 23 against Brown. Evans was 6-for-12 from the field, 9-for-10 from the foul line, and also made two threes. Over the last two games, Evans is 18-for-20 at the free throw line and is shooting 87.5% at the charity stripe to open the season. 


Balanced Scoring... Sacred Heart is second in the NEC in scoring offense through the first week of the season, averaging 81.7 points per game. Four Pioneers are averaging double figues in scoring, led by Louis Montes' 20.3 points per game. Evan Kelley is averaging 18 points per game, with Chris Evans putting up 15 points per game. Those three players are second, fourth, and ninth respectively in the NEC in scoring. Steve Glowiak is the fourth Sacred Heart play to average double figures, scoring 11 points per game.


Forcing Turnovers... The Pioneers forced 18 turnovers on Saturday against Brown, turning those into 25 points. Sacred Heart has forced over 15 turnovers in each of the first three games, averaging 23.3 points off turnovers per game. On the flipside, the Pioneers committed a season-high 16 turnovers against Brown.
