Setting the Scene... The Sacred Heart Pioneers hit the road for the first time since January 25th to take on the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils at Detrick Gym on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers are looking to snap an eight game losing streak that dates back to January 11th. CCSU comes into this afternoon having won two of its last three and a NEC record of 3-7. The Blue Devils are the only team to defeat first place Robert Morris this season, coming back from 16 down to beat the Colonials, 74-73. Both Sacred Heart's and CCSU's games on Thursday night were postponed due to the weather.
Last Time Out... Sacred Heart did not score in the final eight minutes and ten seconds of the first half and finished the game shooting 26.2 percent (16-of-61) from the floor en route to a 62-55 loss to Wagner Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers' 55 points and 26.2 shooting percentage were the lowest since Sacred Heart's opening game of the season against Fairfield. Sacred Heart has now lost eight consecutive games for the first time since the 2004-05 season. Evan Kelley was the only offensive bright spot for Sacred Heart, leading the Pioneers with 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting.
SHU vs. CCSU Series Notes... Saturday marks the 52nd meeting all-time between SHU and CCSU.
- Central leads the all-time series, 33-18.
- The Blue Devils own a 23-10 record against the Pioneers since SHU joined the NEC in 1999-2000.
- SHU is 7-9 against CCSU at home and 3-14 in Detrick Gymnasium since joining the NEC.
- Sacred Heart and Central have met five times in the postseason.
- The Blue Devils knocked the Pioneers from the NEC Tournament three times including winning the 2007 NEC title game. Sacred Heart ousted CCSU from the 2008 and 2009 tournaments.
Pioneers in the NEC... Sacred Heart is in its 15th season of play in the Northeast Conference in 2013-14.
- SHU is 107-161 in conference play since joining the league in 1999-2000.
- The Pioneers best finish in the league was second, a feat they accomplished twice, in 2006-07 and 2008-09.

Two Man Show... Steve Glowiak and Louis Montes have combined for 97 points in Sacred Heart's last three games. The rest of the Pioneers have combined for 75 points.
Phil 500 ... Point guard Phil Gaetano dished out his 500th career assist on February 2nd against Bryant. Gaetano is now sixth all-time on the Sacred Heart assists list with 507 career dimes.
First for Phil... For the the first time in his college career, Gaetano did not register an assist in Sacred Heart's loss to Wagner on Saturday. The junior point guard had dished out atleast one assist in 74 consecutive games. Gaetano was second in the country last season, averaging 7.9 assists per game. This season, Gaetano ranks tenth in country, averaging 6.2 dimes per game.
Tough Starts... Sacred Heart has been outscored by 162 points in the first half of games this season, while being outscored by just 26 points the rest of the game.
Home (Not So) Sweet Home... Sacred Heart is 1-8 at home this season. The Pioneers' lone win came against Fairleigh Dickinson on January 11th. SHU is shooting 40.8 percent (222-of-544) from the floor at the Pitt Center with a minus 7.5 scoring margin. The Pioneers shot 26.2 percent from the floor (lowest at home this season) on Saturday afternoon against Wagner.
Getting to the Line... Although Chris Evans has struggled from the floor of late, shooting 30.4% (14-of-46), from the floor in his last five games, he gets to the foul line more than any other Pioneer. Evans has shot 45 more free throws than any other SHU player this season, and accounts for 28.8 percent (107 makes) of Sacred Heart's total made free throws.
Barnett Back on Track... After three games of averaging an uncharacteristic 5.7 points per game, freshman Barnett has averaged 11points and 6 rebounds in Sacred Heart's last four games. Barnett missed the Pioneers' last game with a shoulder injury.
Offensive Struggles... Over their last three games, the Pioneers are averaging 60.7 points per game, while shooting 34.4 percent from the field (66-for-192).
