Setting The Scene: The Sacred Heart men’s basketball team tries to get back to its winning ways on Thursday night when it hosts the Seahawks of Wagner College at 7:45 p.m. as the second half of a doubleheader with the women’s team. SHU is coming off an 88-85 loss at FDU on Saturday.
Series: Wagner leads the all-time series between these two schools, 12-10, but the Pioneers have won four of the last six meetings.

Scouting the Opponent: Wagner comes into the game with a 2-13 record. The Seahawks have lost four straight and are coming off a 72-71 setback to Brown in overtime on Monday. Wagner is led by sophomore guard Chris Martin who is averaging 13.4 points per game. He has also canned a team-high 33 three-pointers. Senior center Michael Orock is the only other Seahawk scoring in double figures at 11.4 per game. He leads Wagner in rebounding at 7.3 per game.
This Date in SHU Men’s Basketball History: On January 7, 1982 the Pioneers used a strong first half effort to defeat Stonehill 98-83. The Pioneers led 45-31 at the intermission, shooting 60 percent in the first half. Six players scored in double figures for SHU with Keith Bennett leading the way with 24 points. Rhonie Wright chipped in with 21 points and an incredible 19 rebounds. He was 13-14 from the free throw line. Rudy Charles finished with 13 points, while Mike Ashley had 12. The Pioneers would finish the season with a 26-6 record, losing to Kentucky Wesleyan in the National Division II Quarterfinals.
