Hassan Named Northeast Conference Player of the Week

FAIRFIELD, CT - Senior forward Corey Hassan (Merrimack, NH) was named the Choice Hotels Northeast Conference Player of the Week today after helping the the men's basketball team to its first-ever 2-0 start in Division I.
Hassan got off to a fast start helping the Pioneers to a 2-0 week to begin the 2009-10 campaign. He averaged 25.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game and shot 61.2 percent from the field, 54.5 percent from behind the arc (6-11) and 87.5 percent from the free throw line (7-8).
He poured in a career-high 30 points in a 92-86 win over Yale in the Connecticut 6 Classic in Bridgeport Friday night. Hassan shot 11-17 from the floor, and nailed 3-6 shots from outside the arc and 5-6 from the charity stripe. He also added nine rebounds, five assists and a pair of steals.
In an 81-70 win over Lafayette two days later, the Merrimack, NH native finished with 21 points on 8-14 shooting, including 3-5 three-point shots to go along with five boards.
Between his freshman year at Boston University and two-plus seasons at SHU, Hassan has accumulated 986 career points. He could reach 1,000 for his three years at SHU, if he averages 13 points a game over the remaining 27 regular-season games.
