Vrabel and Luciano Named Men's Fencing Coaching Staff of the Year

(Fairfield, CT) - At the recent annual meeting of the comissioner and coaches from the Northeast Fencing Conference, the Pioneer coaching staff was voted the Men's Fencing Coaching Staff of the Year.  The staff is composed of Head Coach Dr. Tom Vrabel and Assistant Coach Paul Luciano.

This award comes on the heels of the Pioneers second consecutive championship and undefeated season in the NFC.  In addition to being league champions, the Pioneeres also placed three fencers on the NFC First Team All-Star Team (Stuart Holmes in Foil, Justin Dion in Epee, and Marty Williams in saber).

"I am very pleased with the accomplishment of the team this season," comments head coach Dr. Vrabel.   "This award is due to the determination of our athletes this year.  We had to replace three starters from the previous season and then had three of this year's starters go down to injury.  Fencers like Nate Quigley, Victor Nieto, and Sean Vilar stepped in to the starting lineup and we did not miss a beat.  This award is truly the result of a complete team effort.  With the addition of twelve incoming fencers to the team for next season, we should be in position to once again challenge for the league title."
