Fairfield, CT - Graduating senior tight end Rich Rossi (Moosic, PA) will represent Sacred Heart at the 2012 Casino Del Sol College All-Star Game in Tucson, AZ. Rossi, who also played wide receiver at SHU, is the first Pioneer to ever receive an invitation to play in the annual event. In 2011, he led Sacred Heart in every receiving category by hauling in 47 receptions for 574 yards and six touchdowns.
"Rich is a big physical receiver who can line up outside and at tight end for us," said SHU head coach Paul Gorham. "He has the ability to make plays over the middle."
The 6-2, 225 pound playmaker will play with 90 of the nation's elite college football players from prominent schools such as Arizona, Arizona State, Boise State, Colorado, LSU, Michigan, Oklahoma, Penn State, and Pittsburgh. The game will take place January 16 at Kino Stadium and will be broadcast live on FOX Sports Arizona, FOX Sports Southwest PLUS, FOX Sports Houston PLUS, FOX College Sports and SportSouth.
Rossi hopes to join fellow SHU alum Jon Corto, currently with the Buffalo Bills, in the NFL. The only Pioneer to be selected in the NFL draft was DeVeren Johnson who went to the Dallas Cowboys in the sixth round of the 2002 draft.
