SHU's Tyler Foehr Named to All-New England Team

FAIRFIELD, CT - Sacred Heart senior defensive end Tyler Foehr (Florence, NJ) added another honor to his resume this week by being named to the 2012 Division I FCS All-New England team by the New England Football Writers.  Last week, Foehr was named to the 2012 All-Northeast Conference first team by the league's head coaches.

Foeher is the fifth Pioneer in program history to earn All-New England honors.  He joins teammate and place kicker Chris Rogers (2011) and former Pioneers, quarterback Dale Fink (2010), wide receiver Steve Tedesco (2009) and cornerback Andre Isla (2008) in picking up the regional honor.

The senior defenive end started the 2012 season by being named to the Preseason All-NEC team and proceeded to make that distinction stand-up with a stellar season.  Foeher finished second on the team with 82 tackles that included 48 solo stops and 13 tackles for a loss this fall.  

He twice posted double digit tackle games this season, making 13 tackles in a loss at Colgate and 13 in a home win over Central Connecticut State.  He had a two sack game in the loss at home to Wagner.  Foehr finished the year ranked ninth in the NEC averaging 7.4 tackles per game.  

He helped anchor a Pioneer defense that ranked ninth in the nation in pass defense and ninth in sacks.  Foehr finished the season with 6.5 sacks, ranking him sixth among league leaders.

Foehr was a force to be dealt with on special teams this season turning in five blocked kicks for the Pioneers.  He blocked a pair of field goals, a pair of extra points and a punt on the year.

He finishes his career with 158 total tackles, 24.5 tackles for a loss including 14.5 sacks.

Foher is one of Fifty-seven players representing 29 different teams throughout New England have been named to the 2012 New England Football Writers All-New England teams at both the Division I FCS and Division II/III levels.  The players will be honored at the New England Football Writers Captains and Awards Banquet on Thursday, December 6, at the Montvale Plaza, in Stoneham, Mass.
