Sacred Heart University Football Announces Incoming Recruiting Class

FAIRFIELD, CT (February 6, 2013) - Sacred Heart Head Coach Head Coach Mark Nofri has announced 33 players that have committed to play football at Sacred Heart University starting in the fall of 2013. This year's recruiting class includes five players from the State of Connecticut.

Head Coach Mark Nofri had this to say about this year's class:

"The coaching staff is very excited about the 33 commits to the Sacred Heart University football program. I think the coaches did a great job of finding the right players to fit our football program, and the right student to fit Sacred Heart University. We have addressed many position needs, and added some good depth to our program as well. I know the kids who committed can't wait to get started and join the group of players we have in our program now. It is a great class of student-athletes that will help make Sacred Heart Football successful."

Tyler Beauchesne – OL/DL, 6-3/267 – Townsend, MA / Fork Union Military Academy - Tyler Beauchesne was a three sport athlete and 4 year letterman at Lawrence Academy and Cushing Academy before playing for the PG Varsity team at Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia. While playing at Lawrence Academy, his team won the ISL Championship 2 years in a row and he was named 2012 Offensive Lineman of the Year a
Kevin Barry – Linebacker, 6-1/205 – River Edge, NJ / River Dell - Kevin Barry was a 2-year captain at River Dell Regional High School under Head Coach D.J. Nimphius. In his junior year he recorded 132 tackles, earning 1st team All-County and 1st team All-League honors. He was part of teams that went to the State Sectional Finals twice. Barry also played lacrosse and ran track at River Dell.
 
Tyler Beauchesne – OL/DL, 6-3/267 – Townsend, MA / Fork Union Military Academy - Tyler Beauchesne was a three sport athlete and 4 year letterman at Lawrence Academy and Cushing Academy before playing for the PG Varsity team at Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia. While playing at Lawrence Academy, his team won the ISL Championship 2 years in a row and he was named 2012 Offensive Lineman of the Year and ISL Honorable Mention. Off the field, Tyler won the Boston Globe Scholastic Art Gold Key Award (highest honor) for his artwork, and was on the Dean's List and was an Honor Roll student.
David Berment – Wide Receiver, 5-11/180 – Dorchester, MA / Taft School - David Berment comes to Sacred Heart from the Taft School in Watertown, CT. Berment earned All-League, as well as All-New England honors while playing under Head Coach Tyler Whitley. He grabbed 35 receptions for 661 yards and 5 touchdowns during his senior year. Berment also spent time on his school's track team.
Caleb Camacho – Safety – 6-0/180 – New London, CT /New London High School - Caleb Camacho was an All-ECC, All-Area, and All-State safety for Head Coach Duane Maranda at New London High School. He also appeared in the Governor's Cup. Camacho is a member of the Honors Society at New London High School, and is also a member of the track and baseball teams.
Alden Carpenter – Defensive Back, 6-1/200 – Ashburn, VA / Tuscarora High School - Alden Carpenter was a 1st team All-District performer under Head Coach Michael Burnett at Tuscarora High School in Leesburg, VA. At Tuscarora, Carpenter holds school records for career interceptions, interceptions in a season, season receiving yards, as well as single game receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. Off the field, Carpenter was an honor roll student throughout his high school career.
   Christopher Cimilluca – Linebacker, 6-0/205 – Colonia, NJ / Colonia High School - Christopher Cimilluca was a 2- time All-Division and All-County football player under Head Coach Ben LaSala. In his senior season, Cimilluca recorded 136 tackles and 12 sacks. Not only a football standout, Cimilluca earned All-Academic Team honors in all four years at Colonia.
  Ryan Cottrell – Linebacker, 6-4/225 – Montvale, NJ / Blair Academy - Cottrell played for Head Coach James Stone at Blair Academy in Blairstown, New Jersey. He was named 1st team All-Prep as a linebacker. He also played lacrosse at Blair, and wrestled his way to become Bergen County Heavyweight Champion.
  Nick Gentile – Cornerback, 5-9/175 – Albany, NY / Christian Brothers Academy - Nick Gentile played for Head Coach Joe Burke at the Christian Brothers Academy in Albany, NY. He also played for Head Coach Scott Smith at Jireh Prep in Matthews, NC. He was the MVP of the Jerricho Cotchery/Madison Hedgecock Camp and also attended the Nike Sparq and Under Armour Combine.
   Frank Greco – Running Back, 5-11/195 – Verona, NJ / Verona High School - Frank Greco played under Head Coach Lou Racioppe at Verona High School. He earned 1st team All-Conference honors in his final two seasons. He was also named to the 1st team All-County team in his junior and season seasons. As a senior, Greco rushed for 700 yards, scored 12 touchdowns and had 400 yards receiving. He also had 75 tackles and 2 forced fumbles that season.
   Tim Johnson – CB/WR, 5-10/170 – Lexington, MA / Boston College High School - Tim Johnson played for Head Coach Joe Garf at Boston College High School. He was a Catholic Conference All-Star and an All-State mentionee. He was part of a BCHS team that won the Catholic Conference Championship and the State Super Bowl Championship in 2011. Showing his versatility, Johnson scored touchdowns on offense, defense, and special teams. Off the field, he was an honor roll student in his senior year and played basketball.
   Korey Kajko – FB/LB, 6-1/220 – Lexington, MA / Lexington High School - Korey Kajko played under Head Coach George Peterson at Lexington High School before spending a post grad year at Wilbraham and Monson Academy. In his junior year, Kajko rushed for over  1,300 yards, averaging 8 yards per carry and scoring 8 touchdowns. At Wilbraham and Monson, Kajko rushed for 700 yards and scored 9 touchdowns in 7 games. In his senior year and PG year, Kajko led his team in sacks and tackles for loss at linebacker. He earned All-Colonial League and twice earned All-Middlesex League honors.
   Nicholas Liberato – Linebacker, 6-0/190 – Summit, N.J./Summit High School - Nicholas Liberato is a three-year letter winner at Summit High School for Head Coach John Liberato. A two-time First Team All-Conference selection, Liberato is also a First Team All-Union County and First Team All-State pick. Liberato was part of Summit's 12-0 state championship team in 2012 and three undefeated conference championship squads. He holds Summit's single-season record for tackles for loss with 19. He is also on the track and lacrosse teams at Summit. 
   Sean Merrill – Offensive Tackle, 6-4/280 – Wallingford, CT / Sheehan High School - Sean Merrill was a 2-time team captain under Head Coach John Ferrazzi at Sheehan High School in Wallingford, CT. During his junior and senior years he was an All-SCC selection and Class M All-State selection on offense. As a senior, he was also a New Haven Register All-Area selection and All-State selection and named to the Hartford Courant All-Courant team. Off the football field, Merrill was an honor roll student and played on the lacrosse team.
   Jack Michaels – Offensive Line/Defensive Tackle, 6-2/275 – Harvard, MA /Cushing Academy - Jack Michaels is a four-year letterman at Lawrence Academy and recently Cushing Academy. At Lawrence Academy, Michaels was an Honorable Mention Independent School League selection in 2010. He was also Lawrence Academy's Defensive Lineman MVP in 2011. Michaels was Cushing Academy's 2012 Offensive Lineman MVP.  He has also excelled at the Blue Chip Football Academy, being named an Outstanding Lineman performer in 2011 and was first in the Lineman Challenge in 2012.
   Anthony Milone – Linebacker, 6-0/205 – Closter, NJ / Northern Valley Demarest High School - Milone was a 2-time All-Conference performer while playing under Head Coach Tony Mottola at Northern Valley Demarest High School. In his two years as a varsity starter, Milone tallied 125 tackles, 30 tackles for loss, and 8 forced fumbles.

 Eric Mooney – Wide Receiver, 6-1/190 – Stoneham, MA / Stoneham High School - Mooney was a three year starter at wide receiver under Head Coach Bob Almeida at Stoneham High School. He was named to the All-Middlesex 1st team, as well being named a Boston Herald All-Scholastic Wide Receiver. He was his team's offensive player of the year and most valuable player as a senior. He currently holds his school record for most touchdown receptions in a season with 13. Mooney was also captain of his lacrosse and basketball teams at Stoneham High School.
   Erik Moskal – Wide Receiver, 6-0/175 – Wayne, NJ / Wayne Hills - Erik Moskal comes to Sacred Heart from Wayne, New Jersey. He played under Head Coach Chris Olsen, at Wayne Hills High School. He was part of State Championship teams in 2010 and 2011. In his senior year he was named team captain, and earned 2nd team All- County and 1st team All-League honors. He scored 9 touchdowns in 11 games that year. Moskal also played varsity baseball and basketball at Wayne Hills.
   Ryan Murtha – Offensive Tackle, 6-2/290 – Oakdale, CT / Montville High School - Ryan Murtha played high school ball at Montville High School under Head Coach Tanner Grove. He was an All-Conference Lineman in both his junior and senior seasons. He was part of three Montville teams that won conference championships, and one team that lost in the state finals. In the classroom, Murtha was a four-year honor student.

Kyle Nagel – Tight End, 6-2/225 – New Paltz, NY / New Paltz - Kyle Nagel was a 1st team All-Section performer at New Paltz High School under Head Coach Tom Tegeler. He led his Section 9 Championship team to a win in 2011. Off the field, Nagel was an honor roll student in his junior and senior years.

   Jeffrey Peras Jr. – Defensive End, 6-4/230 – Salem, MA / Marblehead - Jeff Peras comes to Sacred Heart after spending a post grad year playing football at the New Hampton School under Head Coach Ed Kiley. While there he earned All-New England honors, as well All-Evergreen League honors. In his senior season at Marblehead High School in 2012, Peras made 68 tackles, including 4 sacks in 8 games. Peras also played for Marblehead's basketball team.
   Sean Peters – OL/DL, 6-4/250 – North Attleboro, MA / North Attleboro High School - Sean Peters played football, basketball, and baseball at North Attleboro High School. He was captain of the football team under Head Coach Don Johnson. He was a Sun Chronicle All-Star, as well as a Hockomock League All-Star in his final three seasons. In the classroom, Peters was an honor roll student throughout his high school career.
   Evan Pittman – Quarterback, 6-3/210 – Baltimore, MD / Dunbar High School - Evan Pittman played high school football at Dunbar High School, and then prepped at Canterbury Prep in New Milford, CT and also spent time at ASA College in Brooklyn, NY. Pittman accumulated 1,555 passing yards and 21 touchdowns. He also rushed for 372 yards and scored 5 more touchdowns while at Canterbury Prep. While playing for the ASA Avengers, the team won the Northeast Football Conference Championship and played in the 2nd ranked national bowl game. Pittman has been an excellent student throughout his time in high school and in junior college, making the Dean's List while at ASA and being an honor roll student at Dunbar.
   Daniel Polaski – Offensive Tackle, 6-9/300 – Agawam, MA / Western Carolina - Polaski comes to Sacred Heart with 2 years of eligibility remaining after graduating from Western Carolina, looking to get his Master's of Science in Exercise Science and Nutrition at SHU. Polaski graduated from Western Carolina in three and a half years with a GPA of 3.52 and a degree in Biology. He was named to the Southern Conference Academic All-Conference Team in 2011 and 2012. Polaski was a two year varsity player at offensive tackle for Western Carolina, in 2011 and 2012.
   Brett Polinsky – Defensive Lineman, 6-0/275 – Minersville, PA / Minersville Area High School - Brett Polinsky was a four year letterman and 2-time captain at Minersville Area High School playing under Head Coach Pat Mason. Polinsky recorded 213 tackles, 17.5 sacks, 36 tackles for loss, 1 interception, 5 forced fumbles and 3 fumble recoveries in his four years at Minersville. In his senior year alone he had 8.5 sacks and 14 tackles for loss. He was a three-time All County Coaches selection and a three-time 1st team Anthracite League selection. As a senior, he was named team MVP, team defensive MVP and team lineman of the year. In the classroom, Polinsky was the recipient of the Presidential Award for Academic Excellence and also the 2012 National Honor Society President. He was also three year member of the National Honors Society and the president of his senior class.
   James Rentz – Linebacker, 6-1/230 – St. Augustine, FL / St. Augustine High School - James Rentz was an All-County linebacker and All-State weightlifter at St. Augustine High School in Florida. He was twice named to the All-County and All-District teams as a linebacker under Head Coach Joey Miles. He was also a 2-time state weightlifting champion in 2011 and 2012. Also in 2012 he was named the St. Augustine Male Athlete of the Year and the strongest Yellow Jacket in the school's history.
   James Ryan – Wide Receiver, 5-10/165 – Belchertown, MA / Belchertown - James Ryan comes to Sacred Heart after a decorated career under Head Coach John Mayo at Belchertown High School.  Ryan was a 3-time All-League selection, 2-time All-Western Mass selection, and team MVP. In his career, Ryan amassed over 1200 receiving yards and over 1100 rushing yards. The Daily Hampshire Gazette named him to their All-Scholastic and All-Academic teams. Ryan was a three sport athlete, also playing baseball and basketball at Belchertown.
   Brandon Robertson – Tight End, 6-2/204 – Montville, CT / Montville High School - Brandon Robertson was an ECC All-Star at Montville High School playing under Head Coach Tanner Grove. He was a part of two conference championship winning teams and a team that lost in the state championship. Off the field, Robertson was an honors student and a part of the Spanish National Honors Society. Robertson also participated on the indoor and outdoor track teams at Montville.
   Matt Slade – Linebacker, 6-1/215 – Laguna Niguel, CA / Dana Hills High School - Matt Slade comes to Sacred Heart after captaining his high school's team to a Sea View League Championship, the first in school history. In his senior year, Slade notched 95 tackles, including 18 in one game to tie a school record. Also in 2012, Slade earned 1st Team All-League honors, Defensive MVP of the Sea View League, and Team MVP. Off the field, Slade played basketball and was a 4-year scholar athlete and honor roll student.
   Robert Steffe – DE/DT, 6-4/225 – Monroe Township, NJ / Monroe Township High School - Steffe played at Monroe Township High School for Head Coach Christopher Beagan. Steffe earned first place at the Central Jersey Lineman Challenge.
   Jordan Swan – Linebacker, 6-1/215 – South Bound Brook, NJ / Bishop George Ahr - Jordan Swan comes to Sacred Heart after captaining his high school team under Head Coach Don Sofil Kanich. He earned third team All-Area honors in his senior season, recording 85 tackles and 4 sacks. In the classroom, Swan was an honor roll student and part of the National Hispanic Honors Society.
   Brad Tiernan – Offensive Lineman, 6-3/277 – Stratham, NH / Exeter High School - Brad Tiernan comes to Sacred Heart after impressive careers at Exeter High School and Cushing Academy. While at Exeter, Tiernan was a 1st team All-State selection in both his junior and senior years, as well as a 2nd teamer in his sophomore year. While at Cushing Academy, Tiernan was an All-New England caliber player.
   Brock Turner – Wide Receiver, 6-3/180 – Boca Raton, FL / Pope John Paul II High School - Brock Turner was a three year starter at Pope John Paul II High School under Head Coach Matt Dillon. Turner was also a stand out basketball player and track performer while in high school. Off the playing field, Turner was part of the National Honor Society, Leadership Council, and achieved Distinguished Academic First Honors.
   
nd ISL Honorable Mention. Off the field, Tyler won the Boston Globe Scholastic Art Gold Key Award (highest honor) for his artwork, and was on the Dean's List and was an Honor Roll student.
