FAIRFIELD, CT (August 15, 2013) - The SHU football preseason camp is in full swing as we continue with our 2013 preview, Pioneer Preseason Pass. On Thursday, we talked with offensive coordinator Kevin Bolis and senior Paul Link in previewing the Pioneer offensive line.
Part III - Offensive Line
Let's talk offense. And when you talk offense, you have to start "up front" and "down in the trenches" with the offensive line. Offensive coordinator Kevin Bolis has a nice mix of experience and youth to work with in 2013 and it all starts with a pair of seniors in Paul Link (East Greenwich, RI) and Jaime Martinez (Brooklyn, NY). Link started every game at center last fall and will move over to the left guard spot this season. Martinez, started all 11 games last year at left guard, moves to right tackle. Link opened this week by earning a spot on the 2013 All-Northeast Conference Preseason team.
Fellow senior Andrew Brigley (Bergenfield, NJ) saw plenty of action last season and is slated to move into the starting center role. Sophomore Nick Bartoli (Falls, PA) started the final five games of 2012 at right guard as a freshman. Bartoli was called to action after starting guard Rakendrick Vanardo was lost to injury.
The front five will be bolstered by the addition of Dan Polaski (Agawam, MA), a transfer graduate student from Western Carolina. Polaski, at 6-9, 300 lbs, has been working his way into the offense during camp and is shaping up to be the Pioneers' starting left tackle come kick-off at Marist.
We will wrap up week one of our position previews on Friday with a look at one of the strongest areas on the team, the defensive backs.
