Fairfield, CT – Two days after navigating Sacred Heart to an opening week victory over Marist, sophomore quarterback RJ Noel (Lowell, MA) was named Northeast Conference Co-Rookie of the Week. Noel shares the award with Duquesne running back Dillon Buechel.
Making his first collegiate start, Noel manufactured 304 yards of total offense to power SHU to an opening week 37-21 win over the Marist Red Foxes. The Massachusetts product completed 21 of 34 passes for 201 yards and a touchdown. Noel also led the rushing attack, carrying the ball 17 times for 104 yards and a touchdown. Noel made great decisions all night long including a beautiful 46-yard touchdown strike to Tyler Dube (Southington, CT) to give SHU a 30-7 lead and a late nine-yard TD scamper after a nifty fake to junior running back Keshaudas Spence (Dorchester, MA). Noel did not turnover the football and avioded being sacked all game.
Noel and the Pioneers travel to lake on Patriot League foe Lafayette this Saturday in Easton, Pennsylvania. Kickoff is set for 6:00 PM.
