Fairfield, CT (September 9, 2013) – Junior defensive back Stephan Thomas (Egg Harbor Twp., NJ) was named The Sports Network National Co-Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in Sacred Heart's 26-24 win over Lafayette on Saturday night.
Thomas came up with 8 tackles, two interceptions, and one forced fumble as Sacred Heart defeated Lafayette and went 2-0 for the first time since 2008. The junior's two picks came when he was covering preseason All-Patriot League wide receiver Mark Ross, rising up and stealing the ball away from Lafayette's top wide out. Thomas also had a big play when he made a touchdown saving tackle late in the first quarter to thwart a Lafayette third and goal attempt from the two-yard line.
So far this season, Thomas is Sacred Heart's leading tackler with 15 to go along with his two interceptions, a forced fumble, and three pass break-ups.
Thomas and Sacred Heart look for three in a row this weekend as they host the Lincoln University Lions Saturday night on Campus Field.
