FAIRFIELD, CT – The Sacred Heart University football team will be playing at Fordham for the first round of the FCS Playoffs Saturday, November 30th at 1:00 pm as announced on the FCS Playoffs Selection show on ESPNU Sunday morning. Sacred Heart and Fordham have never met on the gridiron.
The Pioneers finished the regular season 10-2 on their way to winning the 2013 Northeast Conference Championship and the school's first-ever berth into the FCS Playoffs. Sacred Heart was picked to finish last in the NEC Preseason Coach's Poll after finishing 2-9 a season ago and 1-7 in the NEC. The Pioneers won its final three games this season, clinching the NEC title with a 42-25 win at Robert Morris on November 16th.
The Fordham Rams earned an at-large berth into the FCS Playoffs after finishing the regular season 11-1. Fordham's lone loss came against the Lafayette Leopards on November 16th, 27-14 in Easton, Pa. The Pioneers defeated Lafayette 26-24 on September 7th. Freshman punter Alec Finney knocked down a 42-yard field goal as time expired to deliver SHU the Week 2 victory.
