FAIRFIELD, Conn. – SHU football senior wide receiver Andrew O'Neill has been named to the Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association Academic All-Star Team.
O'Neill was one of 49 recipients of the honor. Football players from all FCS institutions are eligible for the award. Each of the nominees are required to have a minimum grade point average of 3.20 in undergraduate study and have been a starter or key player with legitimate athletics credentials.
A Health Sciences major, O'Neill has a 3.86 cumulative grade point average. This season, O'Neill earned his second consecutive CoSIDA Academic All-District selection and was a finalist for the STATS FCS Doris Robinson Scholar-Athlete Award. He finished the 2017 season fourth in the Northeast Conference with 5.4 receptions per game and fifth with 62.7 receiving yards per game. O'Neill had a career-high 11 receptions, 142 receiving yards, and two touchdowns at Bryant on Nov. 4. He has had a reception in 24 consecutive games.
