SHU Football Finalizes 2018 Recruiting Class On National Signing Day

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Sacred Heart University Head Football Coach Mark Nofri announced 18 commitments to the Pioneers' Class of 2022 on National Signing Day Wednesday.

SHU Football added the following student-athletes to the roster: Marquis Bazemore (Washington, DC), Justin Beckett (Union, N.J.), Bailey Brooks (Clearwater, Fla.), DeAndre Byrd (Suwanee, Ga.), Julius Chestnut (Severn, Md.), Jadyn Coutte (Coxsackie, N.Y.), Noah Gettman (Daytona Beach, Fla.), Andrew Hardin (Woodbridge, Va.), Preston Harless (Dallas, Texas), Jason Hirschauer (Southbury, Conn.), Julian Leslie (Hightstown, N.J.), Jacob Liebert (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.), Marquez McCray (Philadelphia, Pa.), Sam Obiang (Woodbridge, Va.), Kevin Peprah (Woodbridge, Va.), Donovan Reiser (Holmdel, N.J.), Steve Reynolds (Philadelphia, Pa.), Clayton Scott (Millville, N.J.), CJ Williams (Princeton, N.J.), and Drew Zebarth (Cheshire, Conn.).

"I'm very pleased with the student-athletes that we have coming play here at Sacred Heart," said Nofri. "My staff worked very hard to find the right student-athletes that can put us right back in the mix for a Northeast Conference championship and continue our recent winning tradition."

 

Bazemore is a 6-foot, 215-pound linebacker who was an NEFC Second Team selection at ASA College.

 

Beckett is a 5-foot-10, 172-pound defensive back who had five interceptions his senior year at Union High School before attending Hebron Academy for a post-graduate year.

 

Brooks is a 5-foot-8, 150-pound wide receiver who was an All-State selection in Florida at Clearwater Central Catholic High School.

 

Byrd is a 6-foot-1, 223-pound linebacker that was an All-NEPSAC Honorable Mention selection at Deerfield Academy.

 

Chestnut is a 6-foot, 205-pound running back who was an All-Metro First Team selection by the Baltimore Sun while at Archbishop Spalding High School.

 

Coutte is a 6-foot-5, 280-pound defensive lineman that played a post-graduate year at Bridgton Academy.

 

Gettman is a 6-foot-3, 160-pound kicker from Mainland High School. He averaged over 35 yards per punt in his senior year and made 25 of 26 PATs.

 

Hardin is a 6-foot-1, 205-pound defensive back that earned Class 6 All-State honors at Woodbridge High School.

 

Harless is a 5-foot-9, 160-pound kicker and punter from Parish Episcopal High School, where he was perfect on PATs and field goals as a senior.

 

Hirschauer is a 6-foot, 160-pound kicker from Pomperaug High School, where he was an All-Southwest Conference Honorable Mention honoree in 2017.

 

Leslie is a 5-foot-11, 205-pound running back who played a post-graduate year at The Peddie School.

 

Liebert is a 5-foot-11, 195-pound wide receiver who earned NYSSWA Class A All-State Honorable Mention honors at Walter Panas High School.

 

McCray is a 6-foot-2, 205-pound quarterback who led St. Joseph's Prep to the 2016 PIAA Class 6A state title.

 

Obiang is a 6-foot-1, 260-pound defensive lineman who as a VHSL Class 6 First Team All-State selection at Woodbridge High School.

 

Peprah is a 6-foot, 225-pound defensive lineman from Woodbridge High School.

 

Reynolds is a 6-foot-1, 230-pound defensive lineman that was a 5A All-Public League defensive end at Simon Gratz High School.

 

Scott is a 5-foot-10, 195-pound running back that had back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons at Millville High School, earning a Second Team All-South Jersey honor in 2017.

 

Williams is a 6-foot-3, 290-pound offensive lineman from The Hun School of Princeton, where he was a First Team All-MAPL and New Jersey Prep A selection.

 

Zebarth is a 6-foot-7, 315-pound offensive lineman from Cheshire High School.

 

This group joins Nasiem Brantley, Randy Brito, Shamere Collins, Travis Ecke, Troy Holland, Lucas Nunez, and Hayden Pruett who signed during the early signing period on Dec. 22.
