Assistant coach Alex Relph will be in his fourth season as a member of the SHU football coaching staff this fall.  The 2015 season will be his second as the teams's wide receivers coach after coaching the running backs for his first two years with the program.  Additionally, Relph handled the program's strength and conditioning program his first two seasons at SHU.

The Sacred Heart receiving corp excelled in its first season under Relph, with Tyler Dube earning First-Team All-NEC honors, following a a season with 960 receiving yards, and a school-record 16 touchdown catches. The Pioneers amasssed 2,532 receiving yards, to 13 different players in 2014, with 23 catches that resulted in touchdowns.

Relph mentored a running back group that in 2013 more than doubled its output from the prior season, finishing the year 13th in the nation at 236.7 rushing yards a game. Anchoring that ground game was Keshaudas Spence who rumbled for a program-record 1,669 yards, a total that ranked fourth amongst FCS rushers.

Before coming to Sacred Heart, Relph was the offensive coordinator at St. Ignatius College Prep in Chicago from 2010 to 2013.  He coached the quarterbacks, wide receivers and running backs while helping lead his team to their first playoff appearance in the Chicago Catholic League since the program started in 2003.

He began his coaching career in 2009 as a player/coach of the Jyvaskyla Jaguars in Finland.  Relph was the team's  head coach and offensive coordinator and led the semi-professional team to a 5-4 record, a franchise-best mark.

Relph was a two-year starter at quarterback at Colgate University from 2005-2009.  He was voted as a team captain as a senior and was a member of two Patriot League Championship teams. 

He graduated from Colgate in 2009 with a degree in history.
