Sacred Heart Football Program Signs 22 Players on National Signing Day

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (February 4, 2008) - Sacred Heart University head football coach Paul Gorham announced the signing of 22 student-athletes to National Letters of Intent as well as the addition of Marcel Archer, a transfer running back from Central Michigan for the upcoming 2009 season. This year's recruiting class includes four players from the state of Connecticut along with players from the states of Florida, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island and Pennsylvania.

2009 Sacred Heart Football Signings

Marcel Archer (Miami, FL) - Running Back - Central Michigan / St. Thomas Aquinas H.S. Archer transfers to Sacred Heart from Central Michigan University where he helped the Chippewas to a pair of Mid-American Conference Championships and will have two-years of eligibility remaining. A two-year letterwinner at CMU, Archer, a 5-11, 215 pound running back, played in 12 games as a true freshman in 2006 and tied for team lead with seven rushing touchdowns. He made his first career start at Kentucky and ran for a team-high 69 yards and caught three passes for 28 yards. He rushed for a career-high 70 yards and scored three touchdowns in the Chippewas MAC West Division-clinching win over Western Michigan, earning the league's West Division Offensive Player of the Week honors. As a sophomore, he carried the ball 30 times for 114 yards and caught six passes for 32 yards on the season. During his high school career at St. Thomas Aquinas, he ran for 1,835 career yards and 17 touchdowns. In 2005, he collected 896 yards and 10 touchdowns to lead his team to a 13-1 record and the Florida Class 5A state runner-up honors.

Spencer Beaudreault (Willimantic, CT) - Quarterback - Windham High School Beaudreault is a 5-11, 185 pound quarterback out of Windham High School. He was named a Hartford Courant All-Area quarterback as well as to the All-Eastern Connecticut Conference (ECC) first team.

Matt Colucci (Arlington, NY) - Linebacker - Trinity Pawling School Colucci, a 6-0, 225 pound linebacker, played for Trinity Pawling School. Colucci was a first team All-New England and All-Erickson Conference pick this past fall. Colucci led his team to an 8-1 record and 5-1 conference mark recording a team-best 69 tackles.

David Comerford (Providence, RI) - Running Back/Defensive Back - Classical High School Comerford played both running back and defensive back for Classical High School. At 5-9, 180 pounds, he earned second team All-Division honors this past fall while also being named to his team's MVP. He was chosen to play in the Connecticut - Rhode Island Senior All-Star game. He also excels in the classroom, earning Rhode Island All-Academic Team honors.

Rhett Cowley (Oakhurst, NJ) - Defensive Back/Wide Receiver - Ocean Township High School Cowley, 6-3, 190 pounds, was a two-year start at free safety at Ocean Township High School where he also played at quarterback and wide receiver. As a senior, Cowley was named a team captain and earned a spot on the All-Federal Division first team as well. He also garnered first team All-County and second team All-Shore Conference honors. As a junior, he was second in the Shore Conference in interceptions in earning All-Federal Division honorable mention.

Jake Cuneo (Cohasset, MA) - Offensive Line - Trinity Pawling School Cuneo is a 6-5, 300 pound offensive lineman out of Trinity Pawling School. Cuneo earned All-Erickson Conference first team honors after helping guide his team to an 8-1 record this past fall. He helped fuel a rushing attack that put up 2,392 yards this season.

Ben Eedle (Weston, CT) - Offensive Line - Trinity Pawling School Eedle, a 6-5, 290 offensive lineman, joins the Pioneers with teammate Jake Cuneo from Trinity Pawling School. Eedle, along with Cuneo, helped anchor and offensive line that averaged 265.8 yards per game on the ground. He earned first team All-Erickson Conference and All-New England honors.

G.T. Harraka (Frederick, MD) - Offensive Line - St. John's Catholic Prep Harraka was a two-year starter for St. John's Catholic Prep helping guide his team to a pair of MIAA Championships. A 6-6, 300 pound offensive lineman, Harrak was a first team All-Conference and a Frederick All-Area honorable mention this past fall. He was voted a senior captain and was presented the Scholar Athlete Award for his work in the class room over the past two seasons.

Donald Hinton (Gainesville, FL) - Defensive Line - P.K. Yonge High School Hinton, a 6-3, 220 defensive lineman out of P.K. Yong High School was named to Florida's All-State Class 2B second team after a stellar senior season. Hinton recorded 87 total tackles, including 26 tackles for a loss and 10.5 sacks this past fall. He also added four forced fumbles and a touchdown to his statistical ledger. For his efforts he also earned first team All-Area Defensive honors.

Jeff Keffer (Point Pleasant, NJ) - Defensive Line - Point Pleasant High School Keffer, a 6-3, 265 pound defensive lineman, was named the 2008 Shore Conference Defensive Player of the Year at Point Pleasant High School. He was a New Jersey All-State pick and named to the New Jersey Football Coaches Association Super-100. A first team All-Division and All-Ocean County player, he was a three-year starter and team captain.

Paul Link (East Greenwich, RI) - Offensive Line - Bishop Hendricken High School Link, 6-3, 255 pounds, was a named a team captain in 2008 at Bishop Hendricken High School. As an offensive linemen, he was a two-time Rhode Island All-Division 1 player. He earned 2008 Rhode Island All-State recognition. He was also a two-year captain of the school's rugby team and a member of the All-New England Rugby Team.

Nick Maloney (Pottstown, PA) - Offensive Line - Pottstown High School Maloney, a 6-3, 270 pound offensive lineman, was a two-year starter for Pottstown High School. Maloney was a unanimous first team All-Conference and All-Area selection as a senior. He was the named the winner of the Annual Tall Cedars Outstanding Leadership Award.

Mike Minton (Roslindale, MA) - Offensive Line - Catholic Memorial High School Minton was a two-year starter on the offensive line at Catholic Memorial High School. A 6-3, 305 offensive line prospect, Minton earned 2008 All-Catholic Conference honors and was the recipient of the team's Unsung Hero Award.

Chaz Partosan (Willimantic, CT) - Defensive Line - Windham High School Partosan is a 6-2, 250 pound defensive lineman from Windham High School. He was named a team captain this past fall and earned Connecticut All-State first team honors. Partosan was also named a first team All-Eastern Connecticut Conference (ECC) defensive player.

Dave Plaskon (Milford, CT) - Wide Receiver - Jonathon Law High School/Cheshire Academy Plaskon, a 6-0, 190 pound wide receiver, was voted first team All-Conference this past fall after helping lead Cheshire Academy to an 8-1 mark and a win in the NEPSAC Bowl. Plaskon took home All-New England honors as well. While at Jonathon Law High School, he garnered first team All-Conference honors as a senior while also winning the W.E.L.I Player of the Year Award as a quarterback.

Jason Plescow (Miami, FL) - Kicker - Christopher Columbus High School Plescow is a 5-7, 160 pound place kicker from Christopher Columbus High School where he was a three-year starter and letterwinner. He was named a Special Teams Captain his junior and senior season. As a senior, he was awarded Special Teams Player of the Week three times and was nominated to play in the NIKE Dade vs. Broward All-Star Game.

Matt Mackay (Wakefield, MA) - Outside Linebacker - Wakefield High School/Cheshire Academy Mackay was voted a team captain at Cheshire Academy this past fall, leading a defensive unit that guided the team to an 8-1 record. A 6-2, 225 pound linebacker, Mackay was voted the Team Defensive MVP and was named All-Conference first team. At Wakefield High School, Mackay earned first team All-Middlesex League honors at linebacker. He won the Coaches Award for Outstanding Leadership and was presented the Mark Delory Award for Leadership in ice hockey as well.

Ethan Ostermeyer (Brooklyn, NY) - Linebacker - Xaverian High School Ostermeyer is a 6-0, 225 pound linebacker from Xaverian High School. A team captain this past fall, he was named to the All-NYCHSFL first team defense after his junior and senior seasons. An All-New York City player in 2008, he was named the NYCHSFL Defensive Player of the Year after lead the league with 146 total tackles. He was named a Defensive and Team Captain in the NYCHSFL All-Star Game and was selected to play in the Boomer Esiason Outback Challenge NYC vs. Long Island All-Star Game.

Steve Sibona (Manahawkin, NJ) - Linebacker - Southern Regional High School Sibona was a team captain this past fall for Southern Regional High School. The 5-10, 195 pound linebacker was a New Jersey Football Coaches Association Super 100 selection in 2008. He was named to the All-Shore, All-Division and All-Ocean County teams on defense.

Niko Sierra (Longmeadow, MA) - Outside Linebacker - Longmeadow High School Sierra is a 6-2, 220 pound linebacker from Longmeadow High School. Sierra was a three-year starter on his school's football, basketball and lacrosse teams. He earned first team All-Conference and All-Western Massachusetts honors this past fall.

Brett Swider (Boca Raton, FL) - Running Back - Spanish River High School Swider is a 5-10, 180 pound, two-time All-Palm Beach Country running back out of Spanish River High School. Swider ran for over 1,000 yards in back to back seasons and eclipsed over 2,000 all-purpose yards as a senior in 2008. He broke the all-time Palm Beach County single game rushing record with 392 yards and six touchdowns in a win over John I. Leonard High School. He was named the 2009 Treasure Coast Outback All-Star Game MVP, an honor also garnered by Super Bowl MVP Santonio Holmes.

Alex Taylor (Manalapan, NJ) - Defensive Back - Red Bank Catholic High School Taylor, a 5-9, 185 pound defensive back, was a three-year varsity letterwinner at Red Bank Catholic High School. A team captain in 2008, he finished his career with 182 total tackles. As a junior and a senior, he was named All-Monmouth County, All-Division, All-Shore and All-Area. He was named the 2006 Liberty Division "Rookie of the Year".

Luke Wischnowski (Philadelphia, PA) - Quarterback - Archbishop Carol High School Wischnowski, 6-2, 195 pounds, was named a first team All-Catholic League and second team All-City quarterback this past fall. A team captain, he was the recipient of the Mini Maxwell Award for being one of the Top-50 players in the Tri-State Area. He was also the winner of the Red-Zone Player of the Year Award as well as the Wendy's High School Heisman. An excellent student-athlete, he holds a 4.0 GPA and is a two-time academic first team All-State Award winner.
