SOUTH KENT, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University men's golf team stands in fifth place, out of 15, through the first round of the Hartford Hawk Invitational, hosted by the University of Hartford at Bull's Bridge Golf Course. The Pioneers totaled a team score of 301 to end the day just 11 strokes back of the University of Connecticut (290).
Sophomore Joshua Salah (Gloucester, Mass.) led the way for SHU with a first round score of 73. He shot par on the front nine, followed up with a one-over 37 on the back to land in a tie for eighth overall.
Senior David Renski (North Stonington, Conn.) also shot even par on the front and booked a 39 on the back to finish the round at 75. Junior Joseph Serrantino (Cromwell, Conn.) shot a 39 and 37 to total 76, while classmate Leopoldo Garcia (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) rounded out the scoring with a 36-41, 77.
Senior Andrew Storm (Endwell, N.Y.) opened with a 38 on the front and concluded his day with a 40 on the back.
Day two begins with the Pioneers just one stroke behind the host Hartford (300) for fourth. Dartmouth (291) is currently in second with St. John's (294) close behind in third.
