Men’s Golf Leads by 17 after Two Days at NEC Championship
CHAMPIONSGATE, Fla. – Junior Leopoldo Garcia (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) jumped into second place at the Northeast Conference Men's Golf Championship with a three-under par 69 during round two at the par-72, 6,937-yard International Course at ChampionsGate Golf Club. As a team, Sacred Heart lifted its lead to 17 strokes as it aims for a third title in four year. The Pioneers have collectively shot a 582 through two rounds, with Robert Morris sitting in second at 599.
Fellow junior Joseph Serrantino (Cromwell, Conn.) tied Garcia with a field-best 69 for the day as he moved into a tie for fourth with a two-day total of 145. Serrantino and Garcia each shot a 34 on the front nine and 35 on the back, while Serrantino totaled six birdies and Garcia six. Garcia is near the top of the leaderboard with a two-day 142.
Sophomore Joshua Salah (Gloucester, Mass.) was tied atop the leaders after day one, but fell to a tie for 10th after shooting a 77 (42-35) in round two. Junior Jun Hardart (Warwick, Bermuda) shot an evern-par 72 (37-35) for the day to close the second round in a tie for 13th at 150.
Rounding out play for SHU, senior David Renski (North Stonington, Conn.) followed up his first round 75 with a 77 (38-39).
RMU's C.G. Mercatoris is the overall leaders at 141 (71-70). Behind the Colonials, Saint Francis (PA) enters the final round of play in third at 601, with Mount St. Mary's in fourth at 602.
The third and final round gets underway at ChampionsGate Sunday morning at 7:30 am.
